KYR Pass: A Digital Tool to Protect and Inform Our Communities

In response to the growing fear, confusion, and intimidation facing immigrant communities, Citizens Academy, in partnership with Muslim Power Hub, has launched KYR Pass — a digital Know Your Rights tool designed to put critical information directly into people’s hands when they need it most.

KYR Pass is a mobile wallet pass that can be saved on a smartphone and accessed instantly — no apps, no PDFs, no internet search in moments of crisis. It provides clear, concise guidance on individual rights during encounters with law enforcement or immigration authorities, especially ICE.

This initiative was created with accessibility and dignity at its core. KYR Pass is currently available in English, Somali, Arabic, Spanish, and French, ensuring that community members can understand their rights in a language they trust and feel confident using.

For too long, critical legal information has been locked behind language barriers, complex systems, or fear-driven misinformation. KYR Pass removes those barriers. It is designed for everyday people — elders, youth, families, workers — who deserve to know their rights without hesitation or confusion.

This launch reflects Citizens Academy’s broader mission: building civic power through practical, culturally responsive tools that protect communities and strengthen participation in public life. By combining organizing, education, and technology, we aim to meet this moment with solutions that are fast, human, and rooted in community realities.
